Get Your Smile Back With a Full Mouth Reconstruction
Full Mouth Restoration
Some restorative dentistry cases need multiple types of treatment, even across multiple specializations. We offer full mouth restoration at Just For Your Smile in Potomac, Maryland to give our patients the functional and beautiful smiles they deserve. A patient may be a candidate for a full mouth reconstruction if they have advanced periodontal disease, if they have suffered injuries causing damage to the mouth and/or loss of teeth, or if they have severe tooth erosion.
How Long Will a Full Mouth Restoration Take?
A series of procedures this complex and comprehensive will usually take at least several months, but sometimes up to a year or more to complete, particularly if it includes orthodontic treatment. The timeline depends on the specific procedures and treatments included.
What Can a Full Mouth Restoration Include?
Full mouth restoration can include many types of treatment, from implants to gum grafting to crowns to root canal therapy to orthodontic treatment to facial injury repair.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to provide a strong foundation for replacement teeth. These new teeth look, feel, and perform just like a regular tooth. Dental implants are changing the way our patients live. A person who has lost a tooth is able to regain the ability to eat with that tooth again. A dental implant appears completely natural and keeps your facial contours intact by preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing. An implant is one of the healthiest ways to replace a missing tooth.
Dental Crowns
Crowns are made from different types of material. Early in dentistry, they were made from metals like stainless steel. Here at Just For Your Smile, we use porcelain crowns. The reason that we recommend porcelain is because of its strength and cosmetic appeal. Porcelain provides a better color match than other materials. It is also better for those who have metal allergies.
Root Canal Therapy
Some teeth may need to be pulled in a full mouth restoration, but some can be saved through root canal therapy, or a root canal. This is a common procedure at Just For Your Smile. A root canal can restore an infected tooth to its natural function and appearance. Contrary to popular belief, it’s typically no more painful than filling a cavity.
Dr. Osseiran would suggest a root canal treatment if your cavity is deep enough to become infected and spread to the nerves in the root of your tooth. Left untreated, a cavity this deep can become an abscess and may even lead to bone loss in your jaw as well as other health problems. Dr. Osseiran may also recommend a root canal for cracked or damaged teeth (where your tooth’s nerves are exposed).
One orthodontic option that may be part of a full mouth restoration is Six-Month Smiles. Six-Month Smiles uses a series of soft plastic aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth to gradually and gently straighten your smile. Unlike traditional braces, you can remove your aligners during your oral hygiene routines and while eating your favorite meals. Brushing and flossing is not complicated and you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love.
